Because people turn to security officers in an emergency

In September 2021, in a downtown Toronto retail and office building, Site Supervisor Christian Java was ordering lunch. While in the queue, he was approached by a patron who indicated that their friend was in dire need of medical assistance.

Christian rushed to the scene where he found a male with weak vital signs. He contacted Patrol Guard Aryan Shah, asking him to retrieve the AED and attend the scene immediately. Then Java, on the advice of the EMS Operator, had begun chest compressions. When Shah arrives on the scene, he continued the chest compressions while Java affixed the AED.

EMS then arrived on the scene and administered naloxone to the subject. They advised that the subject was in fact overdosing, and were able to restore vitals. They then transported the subject to the hospital.

Christian and Aryan were praised by the EMS for their prompt and skilled responses, and there is no doubt that they aided in the preservation of life in this case.

Because when you’re a security officer, even on your lunch break, you’re recognizable as a first resource to approach when people need help. And Christian and Aryan demonstrated exactly why!
