Prevention of a potentially devastating accident
In August 2024, Security Professional Thomas Drown was on duty at a site when he observed a worker attempting to fuel the engine of a portable pressure washer, which had ben giving him trouble for nearly half an hour. As the man poured gasoline onto the cylinder head, some of the fuel spilled onto the engine and the asphalt. When the man tested the spark plug, he inadvertently ignited the spilled fuel. Flames erupted, catching the engine, the ground and the man’s clothing.
Without hesitation, Security Professional Drown sprang into action. Grabbing a jacket from the nearby guard kiosk, he ran toward the man, wrapping his chest to extinguish the flames. He then instructed the man to go immediately to the first aid trailer, while he notified the safety department. Drown’s clear communication ensured that help was ready as soon as the worker arrived. Drown then used the fire extinguisher to put out the remaining fire around the pressure washer engine, preventing further escalation.
Security Professional Drown didn’t just act swiftly; he made people feel safe. His response is an inspiring example of dedication to safety, protecting others, and making people feel secure. Thank you!
