Fire threatens a person who was in a dumpster
Security Officers Nitin Saini and Suchisraba Choudhary were on patrol near the Simmons Building in Calgary, when they noticed a strong smell of burning plastic and decided to investigate.
After parking their patrol car and proceeding on foot, they discovered that the burning smell was coming from the dumpster area. Further investigation revealed a large fire, approximately 8 feet in diameter, and had spread to multiple areas. They also noticed that a gas line was within 6 feet of the dumpster area and at risk of igniting.
They then noticed a person was inside of one of the dumpsters.
Officer Saini immediately called 911 to report the fire, and then worked with Officer Choudhary to help get the apparently-unhoused individual out of the dumpster. He was intoxicated and his backpack appeared to have some fire damage, but he was otherwise okay and did not require further assistance.
The fire department arrived quickly and was able to address the fire, but without Officers Saini and Choudhary, the result could have been much worse.
Thank you!
