Teamwork saved a life
In September 2025, the Union Station Security Operations Centre received an emergency intercom activation.
The caller reported that someone outside on Front Street was having a heart attack. SOC Operator Ryan Karakian immediately dispatched CanaPhem medic Liwei Zhou and West Egg security guards Ramyan Irenius, Monil Pirani and Ronak Kalathiya to the scene.
Security Guard Kalathiya arrived first on the scene and observed a male patient laying on the ground, apparently unconscious and with no vital signs. Kalathiya immediately began performing chest compressions, while Karakian called 911 to request emergency services.
Security Guards Mark Enriquez and Colin Peters arrived on scene to provide additional support. They conducted crown control with Security Guards Irenius, Pirari and Peters. Within a few minutes, Toronto Paramedic Services arrived and took over patient care. The patient began breathing and regained consciousness, and was transported to hospital for further care.
Thanks to the swift and decisive actions by the Union Station Security team, the individual survived this critical incident. Their efforts not only preserved a life but also spared a family from the grief of an irreplaceable loss.
Thank you to the whole team!
