A mental health crisis could have turned tragic
While stationed at a high-rise building, Security Guard Harmandeep Kaur received a call about a patron’s unusual behaviour on a rooftop garden’s balcony.
Kaur went to the rooftop garden and discovered a man sitting on the exterior of the railing in a dangerous position. Kaur immediately contacted the control centre to request assistance from 911, and then approached the man, asking “Hey, how are you doing?” and holding out her hand.
The man took Kaur’s hand, said “I’m not okay”, and burst into tears.
Kaur said she’d like to talk about it, and helped the man back to the interior side of the railing. Kaur and Security Officer Suheyb continued to talk to and comfort the man until emergency services arrived and were able to take over the situation.
