Lifesaving efforts in downtown Toronto

While on routine patrol in a retail facility in downtown Toronto, Security Officer Sethumadhavan Sajeev discovered an unresponsive man laying on the ground and immediately requested assistance.

Security Officer Jeffry Arce arrived attended with Shift Supervisor Jervy Sicat, who brought a trauma bag.

While the man was in a kneeling position on the ground, he was unresponsive and unconscious, and further assessment noted that he had shallow breathing and that his lips and face were blue, which caused the team to assume that he had overdosed. Officers Arce and Sajeev placed the man in the recovery position, contacted EMS, and administered Naloxone, as well as beginning CPR. As the man remained unresponsive, they administered a second dose of Naloxone.

The man regained regular breathing patterns and slowly regained consciousness at the same time EMS attended. The man refused to be transported to hospital but was able to leave the scene on his own.

Thank you to the team for their quick thinking!
