Lifesaving efforts after a streetcar accident
While off-duty in the summer of 2024, Security Supervisor Deborah Payette was walking in downtown Toronto when she witnessed a man stepping in front of a streetcar. Though the streetcar attempted to stop, it was unable to do so in time, striking the man and causing a severe wound to his leg, which led to significant blood loss.
Recognizing the critical situation, Supervisor Payette immediately sprang into action. Along with a few bystanders, she approached the injured man and assessed his condition. Noticing the rapid blood loss, she expertly tied a shirt (provided by a bystander) around the man’s leg, effectively slowing the bleeding.
Shortly thereafter, paramedics arrived on the scene and inquired about the initial aid provided. They acknowledged that Supervisor Payette’s prompt, decisive intervention was crucial in stabilizing the injured man and potentially saving his life.
Thank you, Supervisor Payette, for demonstrating your commitment to your community every day, not just when you’re on duty!
