Attentive monitoring and swift assessment makes a real difference
While the Westguard team management was conducting a site tour of a monitoring station in Vancouver, Security Site Supervisor Christina Taylor observed a man who was visibly distressed and clearly under the influence of an excessive amount of substances. He was beginning to cause himself harm, resulting in a severe head injury. Without missing a beat, Site Supervisor Taylor rushed out of the Operations Centre and across the site to the man.
In a split second, Supervisor Taylor’s extensive training kicked in: She prioritized the safety of everyone involved, including the individual in distress. She quickly assessed the risk and threats, and engaged with the man in calm, clear and empathetic language. While deciding on the safest and best way forward, Supervisor Taylor maintained a safe distance, using open body language and demonstrating a non-threatening demeanor. She treated the man with respect and attempted to converse and offer reassurance.
The man subsequently became unconscious, whereupon Supervisor Taylor administered Naloxone to revive him until emergency services could arrive.
“We are privileged to have a teammate like Christina, whose courage and compassion is the embodiment of leadership at its best. Thank you!” – Robin Charkrabarti of Westguard Security.
