Teamwork effectively de-escalated a situation
In April 2021, in the early evening, a male subject knocked over a printer and fled the area.
When security tracked him down, they found him on a bench outside with some juvenile females who were clearly uncomfortable with his presence. One of the girls said the man had made them uncomfortable by claiming, falsely, that one of the girls was his sister. Then he mentioned something about killing someone, further frightening the girls.
The Paladin team located the man, who was now accompanied by another man, who was in fact one of the young females. Security officers were able to positively ID the man.
The two males started to get physically aggressive toward each other, at which point security stepped in an attempt to de-escalate the situation.
The suspect managed to escape to a plaza across the street moments before the RCMP arrived; however, a few moments later the RCMP informed the security team that the suspect had been taken into custody.
