Extraordinary efforts in a critical lifesaving situation

In May 2025, during an event at a major arena in the interior of British Columbia, a patron experienced a life-threatening medical emergency that led to cardiac arrest.

Within two minutes of the call being reported, frontline medical responders Mike Gesi, Scott Kent and Zach Campbell from Securigard arrived on scene.

Upon assessment, the patron was found to be unresponsive, with no pulse and no signs of breathing. The team immediately began CPR, successfully cleared a choking obstruction, and briefly revived the patient. However, moments later, the patron suffered a second cardiac arrest. Without hesitation, the team resumed CPR and applied an AED (automated external defibrillator). After 17 minutes of sustained, expert intervention, the patron regained a pulse, just as paramedics arrived.

The patron was later reported to be stable and scheduled for discharge from the hospital the following morning.

Thanks to their advanced training, composure under pressure and exceptional teamwork, these security professionals saved a life in a critical, high-stress situation. Their actions reflect the highest standards of professionalism, readiness and courage.

In recognition of their extraordinary efforts, Canadian Security Lifesaver Association board members Chad Kalyk and Steve Hoffman proudly presented Gesi, Kent and Campbell with the CSLA Quarterly Lifesaving Award for Q2 2025.

Thank you, Mike, Scott and Zach, for your incredible response and for representing the security industry with distinction!
