Lifesaving assistance and persistence

Security Guard Gurminderpal Malhi, only two months into his role, was conducting an exterior patrol when he encountered an individual who was unresponsive.

Without hesitation, he called for assistance and advised Command to contact 911. Acting Team Lead Tanu Thakur, also new to the role, quickly arrived on scene with the medical crash bag.

Security Guard Malhi had already begun assessing vitals and administered a dose of Narcan. When there was no response, he administered a second dose. Upon realizing that the individual was not breathing and had no pulse, the team quickly deployed the AED. Following the AED’s prompts, Malhi began CPR and delivered multiple shocks.

Their persistence paid off: Soon, the individual began breathing and moving. EMS arrived shortly thereafter and confirmed the individual was stable upon transport.

This incident is a powerful demonstration of accountability, exceptional training and composure under pressure. Both Malhi and Thakur, despite being new to their roles, acted swiftly and confidently, directly contributing to saving a life. Their teamwork, preparedness and professionalism are a testament to their commitment and the quality of training they’ve received.

Thank you, Security Guard Malhi and Acting Team Lead Thakur!
