Exceptional teamwork saved a life

In May 2025, the retail security team at a location in Edmonton responded to the report of an overdose, first noticed on CCTV. A woman was sitting on the stairs and did not move for some time.

Upon arriving at the scene, the security team discovered the woman unresponsive and displaying the signs of a possible overdose. She appeared to have trouble breathing and her lips were blue.

Security Officers Brar and Razvi swiftly and gently placed the woman flat on her back. Security Officer Nyange went to retrieve the medical bag, while Razvi contacted 911 to request emergency medical services.

Brar administered a dose of Naloxone, and a second one when the first proved ineffective at rousing the woman. After administering a third dose with no effect, Brar began chest compressions.

A few minutes later, the woman began to move and slowly sat up; however, she continued to drift in and out of consciousness. Eventually, the woman was able to sit upright unassisted, and the team stayed with her until EMS arrived and put her into an ambulance.

Thanks to prompt, compassionate and effective teamwork, a life was saved. Thank you!
