Saved two lives in a single shift
In the early morning hours of his regular shift, Security Guard Jose Michael responded to a life-threatening emergency when a client of a warming center was found overdosed and unresponsive on the floor. Security Guard Michael immediately assessed the situation and discovered he man had no pulse and was turning blue.
Taking charge without hesitation, Michael performed continuous chest compressions for almost three minutes, and gave two rounds of mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Under his direction, multiple doses of Naloxone were administered. Thanks to Security Guard Michael’s quick action, medical skills and calm leadership, the man’s heartbeat was restored and he regained consciousness before emergency services arrived.
Later that evening, while on patrol, Michael discovered another man overdosed in a washroom. He immediately began chest compressions and performed CPR, even as the man briefly lost his pulse. EMS was called, and with the combined efforts of Michael and staff-administered Naloxone, the client began to respond.
Both men survived because of Security Guard Michael’s quick action, composure under pressure, and unwavering commitment. Thank you, Security Guard Michael, for your heroic efforts that saved two lives in a single day!
