Quick reaction and de-escalation made a huge difference
In April 2025, Security Guard Gurpreet Singh was on duty in a healthcare facility when he responded to a Code White (an alert of violence or aggression in a hospital). Arriving on scene, Singh observed a patient hanging around outside a hospital room, and approached him, intending to have a conversation.
As he was approaching the patient, Singh noticed that the patient inside the room was bleeding heavily. He immediately asked clinical staff to call a Code Silver (an alert about a person with a weapon) and advised dispatch to contact police.
It was immediately obvious to Security Guard Singh that the patient outside the hospital room had stabbed the patient inside the room. Singh began to speak to the aggressor and successfully de-escalated the situation, managing to move him to another hospital room where he could be contained until police services arrived.
The injured patient then emerged from his hospital room with a bike lock in his hand, ready to fight. Once again, Singh was able to de-escalate the situation and managed to get the injured man to return to his room. He then administered life-saving techniques, including applying pressure to the wounds on the victim’s chest and neck while medical staff responded.
Thanks to the efforts of Security Guard Singh, the victim was treated successfully and police services was able to apprehend the aggressor without incident. Thank you, Security Guard Singh!
