Lifesaving assistance in the food court

Assistant Supervisor Kunwarpreet Singh and Security Guard Bikramjeet Singh were on duty at a retail facility when they received a radio call about a medical emergency in the food court. They immediately responded to the scene with a trauma bag.

Upon arrival at the scene, they discovered a 16-year-old girl, a food court employee, sitting on the floor by the wall, holding her chest. They checked her vitals and found that her pulse rate was high. She was breathing heavily, unable to speak, and having difficulty breathing. The girl had a medical history of asthma and was carrying an inhaler that had been prescribed to her. However, after taking two doses from her inhaler, she failed to improve.

The security team called 911 for assistance, and then helped the girl with her airway so she could breathe, coaching her through the process. The oxygen level in the girl’s body was dangerously low, and her nose started to bleed. She then lost consciousness and stopped breathing.

The security team laid her on the floor and began performing two-person CPR. Assistant Supervisor Singh and Security Guard Singh continued CPR for approximately 25 minutes, until EMS arrived and were able to take over. The girl began breathing, although sub-optimally. Ultimately she was taken to hospital.

Thank you, Assistant Supervisor Singh and Security Guard Singh – your efforts prior to the arrival of EMS saved a life!
