Puts her life on the line to ensure the safety of students
Three times a day, Security Guard Lasalette Mendes does traffic control to make sure that students and staff at The Country Day School are safe on the property, and walking to their vehicles.
On a daily basis, Security Guard Mendes averts close calls when she is able to pull students back when they absent-mindedly try to cross the parking lot and streets.
In the fall of 2024, Security Guard Mendes saw a vehicle go through a stop sign on school property. Seeing that a student was in the path of the vehicle, she put herself between the student and the car – and was unfortunately hit by the car.
We are pleased to report that both Mendes and the student are both fine.
Thank you, Security Guard Mendes – not just for saving the lives of the community members in your care, but for coming to work every day with your attentive observations and your cheerful smile!
