First aid training meant immediate response

Security Supervisor Srdan Malic was on duty in an office building when an employee rushed in looking for someone with recent first aid training to help a co-worker.

Officer Malic had recent Level C-AED training so he immediately grabbed his fear and went to the scene.

Once on scene, Officer Malic assessed the patient and determined that 911 should be called immediately – but the man resisted, saying that he’d be fine if he was just given some time. Officer Malic knew that the situation was more serious, and eventually overcame the man’s resistance.

Over the course of the next 6 minutes, Officer Malic worked with the 911 operator to assess and test the patient, after which the decision was made to dispatch an ambulance.

Officer Malic was later notified that the man had in fact suffered a heart attack, and without the swift response and insistence on calling 911, the outcome could have been significantly worse.

Thank you, Officer Malic!
