Getting ferry passengers to safety – fast

On August 20, 2022, the Sam McBride Ferry collided with the dock at the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal in Toronto, while carrying hundreds of passengers.

Upon learning of the incident, Corporate Security Guard Sammuel Hufalar quickly became the incident commander and took control of getting passengers and ferry crew to safety. Time was no luxury in this situation, and Security Guard Hufalar worked closely with Waterfront Management, Marine Police, Fire and Ambulance to separate the injured from the non-injured, including several traumatized children and tourists, and witnesses for the professional report.

From the City of Toronto security team: “Thank you, Officer Hufalar, for coming to work, for your excellent coordination skills, for staying strong until the end and for your commitment to the safety of tens of thousands of passengers every day. Thank you for being part of our Corporate Security Team!”
