Awareness and fast action saved a life

While Security Officer Ashley Wideman was conducting video surveillance on the exterior of a site, she became aware of a small group of people gathered around a person on the sidewalk.

Officer Wideman immediately grabbed the Naloxone kit from the security office and ran to the scene. Upon arriving, she was informed that the people there had already administered four rounds of Naloxone, but the person was still not breathing. 911 had been called.

Officer Wideman put on her personal protective equipment (PPE) and started to do CPR. Just as Kamloops Fire Rescue arrived, approximately a minute later, the person started to breathe.

Without Officer Wideman starting the CPR immediately upon her arrival, the outcome could have been very different.

Great job, Officer Wideman – your quick thinking saved a life!
