Mental health and suicide prevention on university campus

While out on patrol in a heavy rainstorm in the middle of the night, Security Guard William Ringland observed a person laying down in an active laneway of a road on a university campus. Cars were swerving around, narrowly missing the person.

Ringland engaged with the person, removed them from the roadway, and later learned that the person was dealing with mental health issues and was actively attempting to take their own life.

The person was safely removed from the scene and taken to hospital for treatment and observation,

Security Guard Ringland’s actions saved the life of the person on the roadway and protected the safety of the motoring public as well.

Thank you!
