Lifesaving response to a violent attack

In November 2024, Security Guard Simran Kaur was on duty when she received a call from his supervisor for assistance. Rushing to the location, she discovered a man who had been stabbed multiple times with a machete knife and hammer, and was seeking help. (Later security footage revealed that five men, who were known to the security team and previously banned from the site, were responsible for the attack.)

The injuries to the man were severe, but Security Guard Kaur remained calm and immediately began to implement her extensive first aid training, donning gloves and taking charge of the situation.

Kaur applied a bandage to the man’s head to cover the multiple stab wounds and used pressure to control the bleeding, recognizing the risk inherent in moving him. She kept the man awake and reassured, encouraging him to keep breathing and stay calm. When EMS arrived, Security Guard Kaur assisted them, helping to cut the victim’s shirt and apply pressure to other stab wounds. She worked alongside EMS to address his injuries until both EMS and Calgary Police Services took over. We remained at the scene, securing the perimeter and ensuring no unauthorized persons entered until CPS tapd off the area.

EMS personnel later expressed appreciation for her actions, noting that her quick response in controlling the bleeding may have saved the man’s life.

Thank you, Security Guard Kaur!
