Lifesaving event at Vancouver Public Library
While on duty at the Vancouver Public Library one morning, Security Officer Rahim Lakhani was approached by a member of the public, who reported that a patron was overdosing outside the library.
Officer Lakhani quickly told the branch supervisor to alert them of the incident. The supervisor got the first-aid kit and a Naloxone kit and the two of them attended to the scene.
Once outside, Officer Lakhani observed that the person was laying face down and was unresponsive to touch and sound, whereupon he called 911 and started checking the ABCs of the patron. Once on call with the operator, Officer Lakhani informed dispatch about the situation and was then instructed to lay the individual on their back and start chest compressions.
Officer Lakhani continued CPR for approximately 10 minutes until BCEHS arrived and took over the scene. Paramedics treated the individual with more compressions and Naloxone for another 10 minutes, whereupon the man regained consciousness and was able to be transported to hospital. Paramedics commended Officer Lakhani’s actions and indicated that they were likely instrumental in saving the man’s life.
Thank you, Officer Lakhani!
